My involvement in the Adult education sector started through sharing my knowledge and skills from my life working in retail and hospitality. I have worked for private RTO’s and in the Community education sector. I have a passion for lifelong learning and this has led me into e-learning. Since my first Learnscope project in 2005 I have had the opportunity to take part in developing e-learning opportunities in my workplaces. I have seen the rapid growth in tools that no longer require teachers and course developers to have technology skills such as knowledge of html and programming. As long as you can use a computer, you can develop online and blended learning content for your classes.

The E-Mentor project has allowed me to start exploring the many options out there, and our mentor has made it possible to choose a few to look at in greater detail so we can gain the best communication and learner outcomes. Safety, privacy and policy are concerns for our organisation and learners and the project is allowing us to share these resources and discuss issues that may be concerning us. We have been able to run PD for tutors, including the online webinars that are being regularly provided.

Project goals
Our E-learning goals in respect to this project are to become more familiar and confident with what is available including Ning, blogs, social media and elluminate. The embracing of E-earning is important as it is an ever growing and expanding facility that will allow us to make available learning and training opportunities to people who live in remote/rural areas and not able to travel or due to other commitments, attend classes face-to-face.

I have learned a lot since being involved with the e-mentor project. I have become more confident with the use of on-line learning rooms , have developed files etc for the use on on-line students, have also set up a dropbox account, a Facebook page for the Stawell Neighbourhood House and finally have greatly enjoyed the on[line contact with other people involved throughout the state.

We have been able to set up a much more efficient use of time and resources for our staff and COM by using Dropbox for communication and sharing. By using an online marketing publishing tool “Issuu” we have been able to look more professional, contemporary and easily target a wider clientele.
We are in the process of setting up online courses on Moodle to enable us to reach a larger market and to provide greater studying choices to our community.
